Company Profile
AMBARtec offers compact hydrogen storage systems with very high energy density, using iron oxide nuggets as the storage material. During storage, the added hydrogen reduces the iron oxide. When hydrogen is withdrawn, water vapor is fed into the storage system. This causes the iron to oxidize and release hydrogen. Field tests have confirmed the excellent energy balance of the entire process, from hydrogen production through loading and transport to the release of the hydrogen.
These systems are suitable for highly efficient energy storage and the transport of hydrogen—including intercontinental transport—using conventional transportation logistics.
In collaboration with Rouge H2 Engineering AG, AMBARtec offers an alternative process based on iron oxide nuggets to produce high-purity hydrogen from contaminated gases (blast furnace gases, synthesis gases from biogenic waste, or sewage sludge) and thereby, for example, enable a steel mill to operate in a climate-neutral manner with manageable investments in conjunction with CCS.
