The Hydrogen Metropolis Ruhr—HyMR for short— connects companies, research institutions, and policymakers to drive the expansion of hydrogen in the Ruhr region. Since 2021, it has been supporting projects, building networks, and raising awareness of innovative hydrogen solutions. The goal is to further establish the Ruhr region as Europe’s leading hydrogen region.
With its industry, infrastructure, and research ecosystem, the Ruhr region is ideally positioned for the ramp-up of hydrogen production. According to a recent market survey, the Ruhr region will meet more than one-fifth of Germany’s total hydrogen demand by 2032.
HyMR is actively committed to advancing the hydrogen sector in the region—through targeted projects, political engagement, and international partnerships. To facilitate a thriving hydrogen economy in the Ruhr region, it focuses on climate protection, economic development, research, and infrastructure expansion as its key areas of action.
