Consortium Plans Hydrogen Ecosystem for Heavy-Duty Transportation

Companies from the transportation, energy, and industrial sectors plan to jointly develop a hydrogen ecosystem for heavy-duty road freight transport. The consortium announced this on September 3. Further details are scheduled to be presented on September 15 at the IAA Transportation 2026 commercial vehicle trade show in Hanover.

Konsortium plant Wasserstoff-Ökosystem für den Schwerlastverkehr

In total, more than eight companies have announced plans to jointly advance the commercialization of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty transportation. The goal is to establish a fully integrated hydrogen ecosystem along the entire value chain: from vehicles to refueling infrastructure to hydrogen supply at competitive prices. The ecosystem is also intended to serve as a blueprint.

According to the companies involved , this marks Germany's first effort to bring together the entire ecosystem needed to scale up hydrogen trucks in Europe by 2030. The initiative is also intended to involve policymakers in Germany.

The companies include, among others:

  • Daimler Truck Holding AG,
  • Volvo Group,
  • Toyota Motor Corporation,
  • Robert Bosch GmbH,
  • Air Liquide S.A.,
  • TotalEnergies SE,
  • Teal Mobility and
  • MB Energy Holding GmbH & Co. KG.

Focus on Vehicles, Gas Stations, and Hydrogen Access

The activities focus on three key elements: scaling up competitive vehicles, developing strategically located refueling infrastructure in line with customer requirements, and ensuring reliable access to hydrogen at economical prices. Together, these elements are intended to form the basis for competitive total cost of ownership for truck customers. They are also intended to establish hydrogen as a viable, scalable solution forCO2-free transportation. The hydrogen ecosystem is intended to complement battery-electric solutions.

According to the companies, further details will be presented on September 15 at a press conference with the CEOs of the participating companies during the IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover.

Ende Oktober präsentiert Purem by Eberspächer beide Lösungen live auf der Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg.
