New AI technology detects leaks in pipelines early on

On August 12, Duisburg-based measurement technology manufacturer Krohne unveiled a new pipeline monitoring system. The system combines artificial intelligence with physical models and is designed to enable the early detection of leaks, theft, and equipment failures. Among other applications, the system is suitable for hydrogen infrastructure and can be integrated into existing control systems.

Neue KI-Technologie erkennt Leckagen in Pipelines frühzeitig

Krohne has launched the new PipePatrol NEO system for monitoring pipelines. At the heart of the solution is NEPM (Neural Engine Pipeline Monitoring) technology. It continuously monitors the interior of pipelines by combining artificial intelligence with physical models.

The system covers a wide range of risks, including leaks, corrosion, equipment failures, third-party interference, illegal product theft, and environmental factors. Operators use the solution in oil and gas pipelines, chemical processes, water and wastewater networks, as well as in district heating and hydrogen infrastructure.

Multi-method approach combines AI with real-time data

NEPM combines a multi-method approach: physical models, statistical pattern recognition, and real-time measurements of flow, pressure, and temperature are all incorporated into the analysis. The system continuously learns from operational data and adapts to changing conditions.

This approach enables rapid detection and precise localization of leaks. At the same time, the system reduces the number of false alarms.

The modular design of PipePatrol NEO allows operators to tailor the system to their specific needs. Its features include highly sensitive leak monitoring, real-time theft detection, pipe break detection, leak testing, load change aggregation, and predictive modeling.

Operators can also retrofit the system onto existing pipelines. Integration with existing control systems is possible.

The system is also designed to conserve resources

In addition to safety and operational efficiency, the system also contributes to sustainability. Early detection of leaks prevents environmental impact, reduces resource loss, and unlocks energy-saving potential.

Ende Oktober präsentiert Purem by Eberspächer beide Lösungen live auf der Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg.

BMW-Werk in Leipzig erhält Anschluss an Wasserstoff-Kernnetz
