Bayernoil has reserved transport capacitywith the network operator in the future core hydrogen network. In doing so, the refining company is demonstrating concrete industrial demand and providing momentum for the development of regional hydrogen infrastructure in the greater Ingolstadt area.
Capacity reservation turns strategic infrastructure planning into a concrete market project. To connect to the future core network, Bayernets is collaborating with regional stakeholders as part of the H2-Cluster Ingolstadt/HyPipe two project . The project aims to supply hydrogen to the participating industrial sites and the region around Ingolstadt in the future. The contractual agreement marks a milestone for the development of the hydrogen economy in Bavaria.
Capacity reservation paves the way for industrial use
“By reserving capacity, Bayernoil is sending a clear signal: We want to play an active role in shaping Bavaria’s connection to the hydrogen network, and today we are laying the groundwork for the industrial use of hydrogen at our refinery sites in the greater Ingolstadt area, ”said Dr. Philipp Kaiser, Head of Business Development at Bayernoil Raffineriegesellschaft mbH.
Dr. Matthias Jenn, managing director of Bayernets GmbH, added that this marks the first time that transportation capacities within the Ingolstadt H2 Cluster have been established on a contractual basis. This has provided planning certainty and thus moves the development of the hydrogen infrastructure one step forward.
The HyPipe two project is part of Germany’s approved core hydrogen network. Initially, it will connect regional production and consumption sites as a stand-alone network. As further core network measures are gradually implemented, HyPipe two will be connected to the Germany-wide hydrogen transport network as well as to international import corridors. The project will thus lay the groundwork for refinery sites in the greater Ingolstadt area to become part of the national and European hydrogen systems. From Bayernoil’s perspective, the next step—the supraregional connection of the refinery site—is of central importance.
